Hosts BITS Pilani reign supreme

DUBAI - With a whopping 8 first positions and 5 runners-up positions, hosts BITS Pilani Dubai collected 55 points to take top honours at the 8th BITS Sports Festival in Bits Pilani campus, Academic City in Dubai. MAHE Manipal finished second with 22 points.

BITS Pilani won the both the boys and girls’ cricket and basketball title. They beat London American City College in the boys’ cricket final while their girls’ team beat MAHE Manipal. In basketball, BITS boys trounced Canadian University while they beat Preston University for the girls’ title.

The winners and runners-up: Football: Canadian University, University of Sharjah. Cricket: BITS, London American City College. Throwball: MAHE, BIPS. Volleyball: Al Hilal Institute (boys), London American; University of Wollongong Dubai, Bits. Cricket: BITS (boys), London American; BITS (girls), MAHE. Table tennis: Gulf Medical University, Ajman (boys), BITS; BITS (girls), MAHE. Badminton: American University Sharjah (boys), BITS; MAHE (girls), BITS. Basketball: BITS (boys), Canadian University; BITS (girls), Preston. Chess: MAHE (boys), BITS; MAHE (girls), BITS. Athletics: American Univeristy Sharjah, BITS.

Indian tennis player Sania Mirza Malik was the chief guest for the prize distribution function and gave away the prizes.
