In a statement, the company, which opened its first overseas office in Bahrain in November 2005, said the move marks ICICI Prudential's aim to extend further its services to non-resident Indians (NRIs).

"The office will promote and service the life insurance needs of the NRIs through...wealth creation, education insurance, retirement solutions and health solutions," the statement said, adding that there are 1.4 million NRIs in the UAE.

Venu Rajamony, India's Consul General to Dubai, inaugurated ICICI's Dubai office.

Bhargav Dasgupta, executive-director, ICICI Prudential, said the GCC, which groups Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the UAE, is an important region for the company's future growth plans.
