iPhone application for emergency launched

DUBAI — Now the patients can instantly connect their nearest health centre through their iPhone. They can also avail other services including the ambulance service anywhere in the UAE.

A single tap on an iPhone application launched on Wednesday by the UAE Ministry of Health gives residents all basic health information on their fingertips by connecting them to 999 in case of an emergency.

Residents and visitors can use the application to connect to the ministry’s call centre or even ask for directions to the nearest health centre in any emirate that the application gives using Google maps.

The ‘Healthy people in a health promoted environment’ application can be downloaded free on any iPhone and is available both in English and Arabic, provided the user is connected to the Internet. While announcing the launch of the application at Gitex, the UAE Minister of Health Dr Hanif Hassan said that the service would mean faster transaction with public health authorities.

“The iPhone application will provide community members with the latest electronic services and customers who deal with public authorities and organisations with fast transactions,” he said.

The service also aims at providing health information readily to help the society become more health conscious, he said. The service launched in cooperation with etisalat, also includes a list of all operating hospitals, health centres and pharmacies around-the-clock in order to enable the caller contact the required service directly and instantly.

The application also contains health tips such as diet and nutrition, the danger of consuming diet pills, hygiene as well as tips for pregnant women.

It also provides updates on latest news releases from the ministry, while residents can also connect through email with the ministry.
