Speaking to Khaleej Times, Anthony Bamford, Chairman of JCB Construction Equipment company, said Dubai is a very important market and also the gateway to other GCC countries. "We plan to roll out more excavators and Backhoe machines in the market to increase our volumes and range this year."

The company has a range of 12-15 products for the construction industry.

Anthony Bamford, who was on a visit to the showroom of Galadari Trucks and Heavy Equipment Company, a leading construction equipment distributor in the Gulf region, said he could see a lot of progress on the construction front. "Our staff based in Dubai is also looking for opportunities to set up a unit here preferably in the free zone,'' he said.

Bamford discussed various issues of building the brand image and boosting sales in the UAE market with members of the Galadari Group. JCB's association with Galadari extends to over 35 years.

JCB claims to have sold 55,000 equipment in 2006 and hopes to sell 65,000-70,000 units this year. "We have moved up from fourth place to third position last year and hope to retain the position this year as well,'' said Bamford, who is visiting Dubai after a gap of two years.

According to industry sources, UAE construction industry contributes to 20 per cent of the GDP. Major construction projects in the UAE include infrastructure, roads and bridges, residential and commercial , airports and ports. Out of the total projects in the UAE, Dubai has attracted 55 per cent while Abu Dhabi has got 25 per cent and the rest are in the other emirates.

The major distributor has chalked out an ambitious plan of growing the JCB brand by establishing a foothold in the market especially for Vibromax. JCB also owns Vibromax, a German compaction equipment company.

Founded by Joseph Cyril Bamford in October 1945 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England, JCB has 10 plants in the UK, one each in Germany, China, Brazil, the US and China besides three factories in India, including an R&D facility.
