“We will open one more store in Sharjah this year and within next 2-3 years will have 100 stores,” Yusuffali M.A., Managing Director of the Group told Khaleej Times after the inauguration of its 77th store.
Earlier, the hyper market was inaugurated by Shaikh Saqr bin Mohammad bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Chairman of Department of Islamic Affairs, Sharjah. It was also attended by Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry Chairman Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa and Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry Director General Hussain Mohamed Al Mahmoudi.
Despite the global economic downturn, EMKE Group continues its aggressive expansion plan. The group has made an investment of Dh120 million on its new store, which is part of its Dh4.3 billion expansion drive for its retail stores across the region and one multi-purpose property in Cochin, India. “We will be opening more hypermarkets in both existing markets as well as in new markets in UAE and other GCC countries. All our planned projects are on track and our immediate plans include the upcoming Shopping Mall in Al Ain, Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi, new hypermarkets in Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia,” said Yusuffali.
Spread across 175,000 square feet area, the new Lulu Hypermarket is easily accessible for both Dubai & Sharjah residents with ample car parking facilities. It offers a whole world of shopping with a good selection of brands and product lines under one roof.
“It’s our policy now to be as close to the shoppers as possible thereby reducing the drive time and making it convenient for them to reach us easily,” said Yusuffali, who also serves as a director board member of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry and is a member of many government bodies. Lulu Hypermarket accounts for nearly a third of the Gulf’s retail market share with a customer flow of 350,000 shopper’s daily chain wide.
Apart from the usual fresh food section comprising of Fruits, vegetables, meat, fish and hot & cold ready to eat food, the hypermarket also has huge area dedicated for department store items like electronics, home appliances, furnishing & furniture’s and fashion brands for ladies, gents and kids. — abdulbasit@khaleejtimes.com
