Throughout the Master’s programme students will be encouraged to consider how insights gained from their own personal experiences as teachers and learners of foreign languages relate to the issues and debates in English language teaching. The programme covers a wide range of educational theory and practice, and introduces the methods and purposes of scholarly research in this field.

The Dubai programme coordinator, Dr Lois Smith, described the MA TESOL programme as “an exciting addition to the existing MA Education programme. The popularity of the MA TESOL at Middlesex University’s London campus owes much of its success to collaborative sessions with tutors and students, and the same approach will be used in Dubai.”

The MA TESOL will begin in January 2011 and can be completed in 18 months. Classes will be held during the evenings so that students can study alongside their regular work commitments. Professor Raed Awamleh, Director of Middlesex University Dubai added that “this means that students will be able to enhance their career prospects while adding value to their educational community. As a British university, we are extremely pleased to be able to contribute to the English language teaching profession in Dubai and the UAE.”

The Dubai campus of Middlesex University is celebrating its sixth year in Dubai which currently enrols over 1700 students and has more than 1,000 graduates.

The UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education’s (QAA) has given its top-most rating to Middlesex University in 2009. QAA identified as ‘good practice’ the meticulous attention given to the establishment, development and integration of the University’s Dubai campus.

The University was praised for assuring that learning opportunities in Dubai are comparable to those available to students in London. The campus is also licensed by the Dubai government’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

Furthermore, the University Quality Assurance International Board at KHDA reviews all programmes on offer in Dubai to ensure that the quality of programmes taught in Dubai are equivalent to those at the home campus in London.
