Dubai residents have overwhelmingly voted for Motor City as the best place to live in Dubai. They also rated Dubailand as the worst community to live in. These are as per results of a survey released by ServiceMarket.com, an online marketplace for home services.

Over 1,400 Dubai residents were asked to rate their home and the neighbourhood they live in based on 19 attributes, including the size and layout of their home, the quality of facilities, the amount of traffic, the sense of community, the availability of public transportation and value for money, among other factors.

Motor City was voted the best community to live in. It scored particularly high in terms of the layout and size of the properties, parking availability and perceived safety levels.

The Greens came second and was rated highly in terms of the perceived safety levels, being pet-friendly, the walking possibilities and the amount of green areas.

Other areas preferred by Dubai residents include Emirates Living, Oud Metha, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Jumeirah/Umm Suqeim, Discovery Gardens, Silicon Oasis, Downtown/Business Bay and Dubai Sports City.

Motor City and The Greens ranked top in a similar survey conducted last year.

Feeling let down
Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, Dubailand scored poorly in terms of the availability of public transportation and proximity to shops, restaurants, activity and entertainment options - much of the area is still under construction.

Areas in Dubai that have fallen out of favour with Dubai residents include Deira, Al Mamzar, Jebel Ali, Jumeirah Vilage Circle/Jumeirah Village Triangle, Satwa, Al Warqa, Al Quoz/Al Khail, Al Nahda and International City.

Other factors used to gauge residents' sentiment of their neighbourhood were the availability of parking spaces, proximity to shops, restaurants, entertainment options, schools and kindergartens, noise levels, pet friendliness and child friendliness.

Satwa was rated the highest in terms of the availability of public transport, followed by Dubai Marina/Jumeirah Beach Residence area. International City was rated the lowest in terms of the quality of facilities (swimming pool, gym, etc.).

In general, people feel safe in the areas where they live in Dubai. On the other hand, the amount of green areas appears to be an issue in many areas in Dubai.

Shaikh Zayed Road scored the lowest in terms of being child-friendly, while Emirates Living took the top score. Residents on Shaikh Zayed Road also cited some noise issues.

The Greens is considered to be the most pet-friendly area while Shaikh Zayed Road is viewed as the least pet-friendly area in Dubai.
