More people are shifting to professional-grade cameras thanks to advanced technologies that are easier to use, plus the support they can receive from brands that are putting a premium focus on helping them maximise their photography skills.
"More people are shifting... so the [professional camera market] is getting more active thanks to the improvement in [camera] technologies," Shintaro Hayatani, UAE country head at Sony Middle East and Africa, told Khaleej Times.
He was speaking during the recent opening of the new Kansas-Sony Camera Store Partner outlet in Dubai's Mall of the Emirates, a full-fledged camera shop featuring the vast range of the Japanese tech giant's cameras and related products.
The venture is a partnership with Jumbo Electronics and Kansas Digital Trading.
It was officially inaugurated by Sony MEA managing director Taro Kimura, Kansas Digital owner Samim K. Qayom and Jumbo Group director Atul Joshi.
The new store - Sony's first dedicated camera outlet in the Middle East - is only the beginning, Hayatani says, pointing out that they are looking out for "good locations and partnerships" in order to leverage more opportunities.
Hayatani pointed out that the market for professional interchangeable-lens cameras - particularly the full-frame segment - is growing 30 to 40 per cent. And with further innovations, the sector is becoming more appealing to consumers. "We want people to come to a store so they can try and feel these cameras," he added.
Hayatani pointed out that Sony is also participating in most photography events to educate consumers more on the benefits of today's camera technologies.
The store will also carry essential non-Sony photography accessories to meet the requirements of the photography community. It will also provide sensor and lens cleaning services, after-sales support and collection for repairs.
Qayom's Kansas Digital has been in the camera business for 23 years.
"A dedicated camera store that caters to the specialised requirements of sophisticated camera users is the need of the hour," added Joshi.
