Rhythm expects 30 per cent export surge

DUBAI — Rhythm Watch Company, a leading Japanese manufacturer of time-keeping products, said it was expecting a 30 per cent growth in sales in the Middle East this year compared to last year.

Takanori Kudo, President, Rhywaco (HK) Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Rhythm Watch Co. Ltd, said exports to the Middle East, which account for 25 per cent of the clock-maker's global sales, recorded a slow growth of five per cent in 2006 following a temporary suspension of exports to Iran.

Rhythm, which is holding the second Middle East distributors meeting in association with Cosmos-ITL Group, the exclusive distributor of Rhythm clocks and watches, said it is organising a road show at the Mall of Emirates to display its diverse range of clocks. The company's annual production is 20 million clocks.

Dr Ram Buxani, Executive Vice Chairman of Cosmos-ITL Group, said distributors from Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and the UAE would be taking part in the meeting.

"Among all luxury goods, wrist watches and time pieces, enjoy consistently good demand all year round. The UAE, with its high purchasing power and relatively modern living conditions, is no exception," Buxani said.
