SAP innovation helped the German football team clinch their fourth Football World Championship in 2014. However, it took more than technology for Joachim Low's squad to win the Euro Cup quarterfinal against Italy on Saturday after missing three penalties.
It remains to be seen what will happen on July 7 when Germans face off against France in the second semi-final of the Euro Cup.

SAP says real-time technology is changing the game for global sporting leaders. For the 2016 European Championship, SAP has continued its partnership with the German National Football Team (DFP) and developed two new prototype technologies.

In the Middle East, Qatar's Aspire Academy is the region's first youth athlete academy to sign up with a global technology company. With SAP technology, Aspire Academy coaches, sports scientists and athletes can access real-time data to enhance youth development and national team competitiveness.

SAP Sports One gives coaches and goalkeepers crucial data to analyse penalty kicks. Users can search the players most likely to take penalty kicks, the area of the goal they usually aim at and specific shot characteristics such as the player's run. They can pull video clips of past penalty clips provided by InStat, a professional football analysis company.

The historical reference data is processed in real-time through the SAP HANA Cloud Platform and integrated into SAP Sports One, SAP's first sports-specific cloud solution.

SAP Challenger Insights helps the DFB prepare for Euro matches by providing data insights on opposing teams. The data includes offensive tendencies, defensive tendencies and formations. Data is enhanced with video replays.

A team's match analyst reviews the opposing team's tactical characteristics and creates a match plan. Players check the match plan by looking at iPads prior to a match or during halftime. They can also familiarise themselves with opponent tendencies and reference past video replays.

Users can alter their on-field strategy manually if an opposing team changes their line-up or formations. SAP Challenger Insights provides a more dynamic and real-time platform to inform players ahead of or during a match.
