Sharjah International Airport saw more than a 12 per cent increase in passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2016, marking its busiest three months ever.
A total of 2.69 million passengers travelled through the airport from January to March 2016 compared to 2.39 million in the same period last year. The aircraft movements registered in the first quarter reached 18,054 thousand movements, an increase by seven per cent compared by 16,865 thousand in the same period last year.

The freight handled for the same period of this year recorded 44,758 thousand tonnes, and the sea-air cargo recorded 2,907 thousand tonnes.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said: "The positive performance in passenger traffic this period reflects the attractiveness of the emirate as a business and tourism destination with more passengers choosing Sharjah International Airport as their gateway to the rest of the region and other destinations."
He added: "The quarter ended on a particularly high note, giving us a taste of the busy summer months ahead. Some markets registered varying degrees of growth due to the introduction of new routes, increased flight frequency and a consequent growth of seat capacity."
Shaikh Faisal bin Saoud AlQassimi, director of Sharjah Airport Authority, thanked the staff of Sharjah Airport Authority, Department of Civil Aviation and government entities operating within the airport (Sharjah Police, Sharjah Immigration, Sharjah Customs, among others) in meeting the highest standards of quality.
