The Liwa 2014 Moreeb Dune Festival, held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of the Ruler at the Western Region, brought together racers of all manner, including cars, bikes, horses, camels and falcons, to take on the dune, called Tel Moreeb.

The Arabian Purebred Horse race was won by horse Naif, and its owner Saif Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouie on Thursday, with Abdullah Musa Al Qubaisi’s horse Hamdani Saraab coming second and Suhail Ali Al Mazroui’s horse BH1 coming third.

In the second round, horse Shamar, owned by Ahmed Al Muheribi, ranked first; horse Rahaf, owned by Humaid Rashid Al Mansoori, finished second; and Fahd Ali Mansoori’s horse Marnet came third.

On the final day of the 7-day festival on Friday, the Moreeb dune drew in the region’s most powerful four-wheel drives and fastest bikers.

Western Region Sports Club director Abdullah Butti Al Qubaisi said that latest equipment would be used in the race, with many donated by international companies.

“The organising committee of the Moreeb Dune car race had prepared an area exceeding 30,000 square metres to host such a race.”
