Virtual reality (VR) will soon go mainstream among GCC consumers. This is why Vsun Mobile has chosen the spring edition of Gitex Shopper to introduce its VR-equipped smartphones in the market.
"The UAE is a window to other Gulf countries and Gitex gives a lot of brand awareness. That's why we selected Gitex Shopper to launch our latest products equipped with VR," Vsun vice-president Swithin D'Silva told Khaleej Times during an interview at the Gitex Shopper spring edition.
The smartphone manufacturer has an ambitious plan to capture a large slice of the Middle East's virtual reality market by targeting consumers who are demanding high-performance smartphones with cutting-edge technology.
VR made a big splash at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona in February this year and is set to appeal to GCC consumers in a big way, given the large gaming community across the Middle East. While VR is still evolving in the region, Vsun aims to use its first-mover advantage to drive early adoption of the technology.
At Gitex, the company launched two new technologically advanced 4G/LTE smartphones with proprietary Finger Print technology and virtual reality capabilities.
The company's latest handsets, Race and Touch, embrace advanced Android phone technologies, user-friendly interface and ergonomic design. With applications in fields such as entertainment, gaming, education, e-commerce, marketing and more, Vsun's VR technology opens up a new world of reality with an immersive experience.
Race and Touch are competitively priced at Dh599 and Dh799 respectively and are available at all leading electronics stores and retail outlets in the Middle East.
D'Silva said: "The giant strides that we have made over the past year is a testament to the fact that we are leading the industry into the latest realms of smartphone technology with several new wins across new territories, new markets and new channels. We can see a new genre of educated consumers emerging who can appreciate Vsun's virtual reality smartphones and are willing to pay that slight premium."
The Race model works on the Android Lollypop 5.1 platform and is equipped with a 1.3GHz MTK 4G quadcore processor and a five-inch high-definition IPS 2.5D curve display screen, along with advanced features such as 13MP auto focus Sony Exmors back camera and a 5MP front camera, ultra snapshot, live photomode, dual SIM facility, and gesture and voice capture. The smartphone comes pre-loaded with VR themes designed to entertain the user and VR glasses.
Vsun Touch with proprietary Finger Print technology features a 1.3GHz MTK 4G quadcore processor working on the Lollypop operating system with a 13MP back camera and 5MP front camera.
D'Silva said the brand is expected to extend its reach to 30 countries this year, compared to 22 at the moment.
