A Second Chance, the highly-anticipated sequel to John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo's 2007 blockbuster hit One more Chance was released last week in the UAE and in key cities around the world, drawing Pinoy audiences to witness another milestone in Philippine cinema.
Continuing to break box office records since its release, the movie has created a cult following worldwide for its memorable lines and inspiring story of Popoy (played by John Lloyd Cruz) and Basha (played byBea Alonzo) who give each other an opportunity to love again.
John Lloyd and Bea brilliantly reprise their iconic roles in Star Cinema's sequel A Second Chance, which will be shared by TFC@theMovies to eager fans worldwide.
Set seven years after their reconciliation, A Second Chance is the continuation of Popoy and Basha's story after they've given love one more chance.
This time, the film explores the realities and complexities of a married life.
Also reprising her role at the helm of this blockbuster franchise is director Cathy Garcia Molina as well as the incomparable writing tandem of the very talented screenwriters Carmi Raymundo and Vanessa Valdez.
To mark the release of A Second Chance to theatres worldwide, TFC (the Filipino Channel) organised their first ever Virtual Press Conference that brought together lead actress Bea Alonzo, and co-creator Vanessa Valdez to meet the members of the international press and the Filipino community in Europe and the Middle East.
Asked why it took them eight years to put together a sequel, Valdez candidly shares that they did not initially plan for one, but the success of the novel that came out of the first movie gave them motivation.
"We were inspired by the love of the fans, who all wanted to know what happens next to their favourite characters Popoy and Basha. We also did not intend to have so many 'hugot' (quotable) lines. The goal was just to create dialogue that would be truthful to the story we are trying to tell," Valdez adds.
Bea Alonzo shares that her character has grown so much over the years, and that she believes there is more of 'Basha' in her that helped her portray the character so well.
"A big part of me is Basha, how she loves, how she takes care of a promise."
Lead actor John Lloyd Cruz shared that his character Popoy captures this reality in one of his memorable lines in the movie. He says, "It takes courage to face the reality that love is not always about wine and roses. It's brave to ask what if not but it's even braver to embrace what is - this is the core of our story."
A Second Chance is in its successful second week of screening at Novo Cinemas in the UAE.
