Experimenting with painting, sculpture, video and installation, the artworks of 'Recent Works 2' is taking creativity to another level

BRINGING TOGETHER an exciting lineup of new generation Indian artists, 'Recent Works 2' at 1x1 Art Gallery in Dubai features works by Ravi Kashi, T M Aziz, Murali Cheeroth, Devraj, Yeshwant Deshmukh, Pratul Dash, Santamani, Sajal Sarkar, George Martin, Rupa Paul and V T Pate.

The artists diversity reflects the heterogeneity of modern day India on a global stage. This new generation of artists offers an alternative vision of innovation and a break with tradition. Experimenting with an array of media – painting, sculpture, video and installation - subversive imagery is often combined with outspoken messages.

Their work has rightly attracted a rising global interest; it has ensured that the presence of Indian art is increasingly being felt and critiqued amongst leading artists of the international contemporary art world. Murali Cheeroth has drawn his inspiration from the built environment, rather than the luxurious flora and fauna he grew up with in his native land.

George Martin creates a sensation with the large, almost phantasmorghial, refractive, fading in and out images soaked in colour. Devraj explores the possibilities of representing the human condition. The iconic figure is a representation of human kind with the external existential question.

Ever since Sajal Sarkar started painting, the human male nude form has fascinated him and it has dominated his canvas. While painting the male nude, the artist neither wishes to be vulgar nor sensational. On the contrary he uses this form as a vehicle of expressing the strength of masculine tension.

Originally from Kerala, T.M. Azis is known to create human figures interacting with the other elements in a painting. Figures or objects performing as symbols spinning around allegories as conceived by the artist. He creates paintings, which record what might be ordinary, everyday occurrences, contemplated by him.
