Bhoomi movie review: Not the best comeback for Sanjay Dutt

The lead actors try too hard but fail to engage

Bhoomi is Sanjay Dutt's much-hyped comeback film after his powerful performance in 2012's Agneepath, followed by an extended cameo in PK, which released in 2014?.
Bhoomi revolves around a father (Dutt) and his daughter (Aditi Rao Hydari) and the beautiful bond they share.
Their lives are simple. She is a makeup artist and he has a shop of handmade shoes in Agra. She is about to marry her fiancé and just then their lives turn upside down because of an unfortunate rape incident.
This isn't the first time that Dutt is playing the role of a vengeful father. In 2002's Pitaah, he played the role of a helpless father fighting to get justice against two men for his daughter. In Bhoomi, both Dutt and Aditi try hard to portray the warm equation, but it doesn't look convincing.
Aditi looks beautiful in the film and clearly goes through a lot, but we have seen darker roles before. The movie and the courtroom scenes don't make us uncomfortable in our seats the way 2016's Pink did.
Sharad Kelkar plays the villain, along with two others who are involved in the rape, and succeeds to make you dislike him from the first scene. He is seen mouthing misogynist dialogues and we aren't sure if he was the right choice to play the lead antagonist.
It seems like not much thought has been given to the dialogues in the film as the scenes between Dutt and Shekhar Suman,who plays the role of Sanjay Dutt's friend, have really painful lines that you want to unhear. The movie lacks coherence as some scenes appear randomly without any relevance. You don't understand the continuity as while you wonder what happened to the earlier scene, we already have the next one. Similarly, no effort has been put to make the fight sequences look real as you can clearly see people flying for no reason and some questionable knife movements?.?
Director Omung Kumar, known for films like Mary Kom and Sarbjit in the past, falter in this movie and it doesn't work with the audience, who could be seen walking out in the first half.
The film starts at a low curve and stays there, while you keep hoping for it to climb. The filmmaker tries too hard to make the ending dramatic and our interest curve remained at its lowest throughout.
If you had a rough week and want to pep yourself up by watching a movie, this isn't for you. But if you are a Sanju baba fan, who can stop you!
