bollyVidya Balan was asked to lose 15 kilos for an Aziz Mirza film opposite Shahid Kapur, Kareena Kapoor is down to an awesome 48 kgs for her new Yash Raj film, Priyanka Chopra is taking weight training for Goldie Behl's Drona, Sameera Reddy is also shaping up. Bipasha Basu and Esha Deol's round-the-clock workout regime and their hot bods are now stuff Bollywood fitness books are full of.

Curves are fine, but they need to come with muscles and a well-toned look. Even the world's most beautiful girl, Aishwarya Bachchan had to knock off extra kilos for Dhoom 2. Ash had put on some weight for her role in Guru and fitness trainer Deepika Mehta helped her reduce that in 10 days.

Aishwarya got up at 4 am for a two-hour workout and the unwanted kilos came off. Mehta chips in, "I was training Aishwarya for a year. Today her muscles are more toned. The trend is towards looking fitter, as the perception of looking beautiful has changed from super curvy to fit and sexy."

The concept of sexy seems to be changing in Bollywood. Bipasha Basu, Sameera Reddy, Esha Deol, Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Bachchan prefer the fit athletic look.

bolyActor Sandhya Mridul says, "My weight goes on and off very easily so I would not have a problem doing it for a character in Bollywood, but it all depends on a person's metabolism. I am really scared of diets, which make you starve all days. Also weight has to be reduced in a reasonable amount of time. It's basically about not pushing the body." Fitness trainer Leena Mogre who has trained Bollywood actors like Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Sameera Reddy feels that one can reduce 15 kilos in two months. "If it suits the person's metabolism, why not? Finally it's not about weight, it's the percentage of fat you reduce from your body."

Fitness trainer Yusuf says, "If it's for movie roles, then we make actors work out twice a day, put them on low calorie yet high protein diets and one can easily reduce 6-10 kilos in one and a half months." Says actor Kim Sharma, "I think staying fit is a way of life. There can never be something drastic like reducing 10-15 kilos in an unreasonable amount of time."

So if Rani today is svelte not thin, it's thanks to her fitness routines at the gym and not a 'popcorn diet'! Mehta who also trained Priyanka Chopra for Don feels that, "When an actor looks younger, exercises and is happily able to tuck in a good dinner, is when we feel happy that they have reduced weight the right way for a role."

And Rani, Kajol, Preity Zinta, Bipasha Basu and Kareena Kapoor are all wonderful examples of that.
