Vassili Tsilichristos
It will be a set to remember at Cove Beach, Jumeirah Beach Hotel on Friday, as acclaimed DJ Vassili Tsilichristos brings his Made in Mykonos evening to Dubai. We caught up with him to find out his thoughts on Dubai's music scene.
What have you got planned for your Dubai set?
My Cove Beach set will be mainly comprised of deep, sexy, dance house tunes with plenty of vocal melodies.
What is this city's reputation in the DJ community?
Undoubtedly, Dubai has the reputation of being one of the best locations in the DJ community. We always love coming to Dubai and playing here, since it combines a beautiful crowd with deep knowledge in music, and at the same time a very cosmopolitan crowd with people from all over the globe.
Where is the best place to DJ?
With no second thoughts, Nammos Mykonos is the haven for DJs. The vibe and intensity of the crowd is always amazing. Take the authentic beauty of the place and mix it up with the internationality of the people there who travel from all over to have the time of their lives. It's really hard to do it justice by describing it, One must experience it first hand.
Are you positive about the future of house and dance music?
I am very positive about the future of deep house and dance, as I believe there are a lot of very talented musicians and producers out there who have plenty more to give. I wouldn't change anything, as - when it comes to music and only then - I am a strong believer of the phrase "let the chips fall where they may".
How has your own style evolved over the years?
I've always loved traveling and listening to new music trends, and how people react to them. Visiting places like Ibiza, Miami, New York and London every year for the past 25 years has helped me to evolve my own style for sure.
What are you currently working on?
On a new remake of Tony Loreto's track - Say You Love me.
Are there any collaborations we can look forward to?
We are preparing a new collaboration with Jack E (Le Caves Du Roy - Saint Tropez) at the moment and working on the CD Compilation Round Trip Mykonos To St. Tropez.
Do you think the time when you broke out was the optimum time for your music or would you like to be starting out today?
Yes, I strongly believe that the timing was perfect. Starting out at a time when vinyls were your instrument became the basis for furthering one's music horizons. It definitely helped me to evolve my musicality slow, but steady.
What would your advice be for anyone trying to get into the industry?
I would advise them not only to love what they do and have a passion over what they do, but to be patient.
Who do you credit as influences and who are you listening to at the moment? Is there anyone you think may be a big in the future?
For the past few years I am a follower of Solomun. I think he is an amazingly talented musician who always has a surprise waiting for you. Every single time that I have listened to his music has been a unique experience.
I also admire Eric Prydz, who I beleive to be one of the most gifted music producers. I also like and respect Maceo Plex, as well as Camelphat, who are a DJ and producer duo that I think have all it takes to have a brilliant future in the music industry.
