NARGIS Fakhri of Rockstar fame was in Dubai recently to open the first UAE branch of iconic Indian fashion brand Kala Niketan at Meena Bazaar, Bur Dubai. Curious onlookers gathered in huge numbers to catch a glimpse of the Bollywood star, who was the picture of elegance in a beautiful pink sari. City Times caught up with the actress, who spoke about fashion, her new projects, and her plans for Diwali.

What are your thoughts on wearing a sari?
I feel beautiful in this lovely sari. This is the first time I’m wearing a proper sari out in public. I wore something similar that was pre-draped a year back at an award ceremony. I absolutely love it. This sari is so easy to wear, the fabric is light and beautiful, and the colour combination is great. I am wearing a traditional Indian outfit yet I feel young and fun. I think the sari is the sexiest outfit from around the globe. It accentuates every part of a woman’s body; it makes every woman look sexy.

Do you feel like standing up and doing a Bollywood dance number right now?

I am not sure right now but maybe in a bit. Yes, maybe I will!

What does Dubai mean to you?
Dubai means glamour, food and shopping to me. It’s an escape from mundane life. It’s like a fantasy land, everything is so perfect here. The city has the best of everything. There are so many lovely places to hang out at in the evenings. I can just come out here and relax in the best possible way.

Diwali is around the corner. What are your plans for the festival?
I will be travelling and working during Diwali. It reminds me of the Fourth of July (Independence Day) back home in United States because of crackers, lights and food. It’s a wonderful time of the year but I will be working this time. For me Diwali is the enjoyment of people coming together and celebrating with sweets, crackers, food, good clothes, music. It gives me a warm festive feeling.

What are the projects that you are working on right now?
I am doing a movie called Main Tera Hero with Varun Dhawan directed by his father David Dhawan. I am also looking forward to starting Shaukeen with Akshay Kumar. It’s a comedy and I have always wanted to do a comedy. I just finished my schedule of Main Tera Hero and landed straight in Dubai. Now after going back to Mumbai I will have meetings and rehearsals for Shaukeen.

Your last film Madras Café won rave critical reviews. What kind of feedback did you receive from the industry?

I am very thankful I got only positive feedback after Madras Café with John Abraham. It’s really nice, I guess when I was a part of that movie, I did not expect anything, I just did my job in the best possible way and left everything else to the universe. So I am happy that the film did well.

Uday Chopra keeps praising your beauty on social media platforms. There are also rumours of a good bonding between you two. How do you react personally to his praise?

I am just an awesome person and all my friends including Uday Chopra feel the same way about me, except others are not on Twitter so they do not express this. If they were on Twitter, it would be hilarious. I do get pampered by my friends; unfortunately not all of them are in India. I was just telling my manager I miss my friends from back home because they pamper me like anything. When someone gives you so much love, you want to give it back.

What kind of roles are you looking forward to doing?
I want to try everything because I am a curious person and want to experience everything in life but I would love to do an action film someday, maybe learn martial arts and train for a few months.
