WITH THE WEATHER changing, it's time for a 'spring clean'. We don't know about you, but we find it sure does get dusty very easily over here. Here are some handy tips to clear up that mess of the finer variety.
1. Feather dusters cause dust to settle somewhere - opt for an alternative
Using feather dusters is a very ineffective method to clean surfaces around the house as it causes the dust to rise and settle somewhere else. The key to capturing dust and for a more effective technique, all you need is a damp cloth to wipe down surfaces instead, as it will trap more dust rather than aggravating existing dust.
2. Bedding should be changed and washed once a week
It is very easy for dust mites to settle in your bedding especially during the dusty months, causing allergy or asthma irritation. Even though you might be washing your bedsheets, pillowcases and quilt covers often, the trick to getting rid of dust mites is to wash your bedding once a week in a hot temperature setting in your washing machine. This will surely help you breathe easier at bedtime.
3. Carpeted floors are high maintenance and magnets for dust mites
Carpets and rugs tend to hold a lot of dust and these dust particles can then be easily carried around the house with every step causing allergies, skin irritations, itchy and watery eyes and more. To ensure a dust free home environment, you must thoroughly vacuum at least every other day which will go a long way towards eliminating dust particles. Many new vacuum cleaners today come with advanced features to help trap dirt and help freshen the air such as the Miele Blizzard CX 1 which has been tested to catch 99.9% of even the smallest particles of fine dust and allergens.
4. Invest in a washer dryer
Drying laundry outdoors is acceptable as sunlight is a natural sanitizing agent however, avoid doing so during dusty and windy days as dust tends to stick to many fabrics, leaving one susceptible to irritant rashes. Investing in a combined washer dryer like the technologically advanced and gentle on fabrics Miele WTH 120, which is a good option for those with sensitive skin, especially during the sandy and dusty months when it is difficult to hang the laundry outdoors.
5. Use floor mats
If you're trying to avoid dirt from spreading in your home and can't force your family to not wear shoes at home or are too shy to ask guests to do the same, placing floor mats outside each door in your home can help this issue significantly. Most floor mats are made out of absorbent and durable materials that trap dirt and debris from spreading around the rooms and can easily be vacuumed or hosed off every few days.
