1) Café Rider
A trendy, organic coffee joint set in the middle of a motorcycle workshop in the industrial area of Al Quoz. No sentence has got our hipster beards twitching like that since we heard the unsubstantiated rumour Mumford and Sons were bringing out their own line of Penny-farthings. This place is spectacular - the Ethiopian coffee is first rate and the communal atmosphere is second to none.
2) Arabian Tea House
Set in the historical Bastakiya, the Arabian Tea House is an ocean of tranquillity in the midst of oldy-worldy chaos. Whether you've just got off a Dhs1 abra ride, or tried your hardest to get the best deal from a nearby tailor, this courtyard café will be your redeeming oasis. Go for the Arabic tea, obviously!
3) Eat Greek
Not strictly a café, but serving one of the best coffees around, Eat Greek at The Beach, JBR does the famed iced Café Fredo for which Greece has made its beverage name. This creamy, icy goodness is perfect for the long hot days of summer, the beachside setting is delectable and the food is very good too. Try the calamari and baked Feta cheese.
4) Deli Grind
The best thing about Deli Grind at the Warwick Hotel is the establishment's artistic streak when it comes to serving coffee. Instead of a straight cappuccino, you'll find a portrait or cartoon character in your foam.
5) Surf Café
Again, this one is more of a restaurant, but the chilled-out surfer paradise that is the Surf Café on Jumeirah Beach Road would never discriminate against those who just want to relax in the airy dining room, sipping on a latte. A Chic Mediterranean vibe, with the freshest seafood in town always has us returning.
