Tunisian artist and former artistic director at Hermès, Leïla Menchari, passed away in Paris at the age of 93 on Saturday. An important member of the Hermes team from 1961, her visual concepts were much lauded and infused life into the journey of the famed French fashion house.
Leïla was the Artistic Director of the windows of 24 Faubourg, the Hermès flagship store in Paris. The windows she created inspired awe in whoever happened to come across them.
"Thanks to Leïla, exoticism found a home, happily and permanently, in Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré," says Axel Dumas, Hermès CEO, as quoted in aeworld.com.
Hermès à tire-d'aile, les Mondes de Leïla Menchari, a 2017 exhibition celebrating her vision at the Grand Palais, showcased her unique talent to a wider audience.
