Gabriel Valenciano: Moving On

When asked to describe his current state of mind via a song, Gabriel Valenciano—son of singer Gary Valenciano—drew a blank.“I don't know,” he says bemusedly. “Maybe a song about thanking someone for all the good times we shared and the things I learned from her, I mean.”

By “someone” and “her,” he is referring to singer, MYX VJ, and now actress Nikki Gil, with whom he had a relationship that ended several months ago. Nikki is currently being linked to actor and fellow MYX VJ Geoff Eigenmann.

Of the breakup, Gabriel shares that both his and Nikki's parents agreed with their decision to call it quits.

“They noticed that Nikki and I were in a great deal of pain, so when we decided to end things, they said it was a good thing and a mature decision.”

But why did they break up in the first place? Gabriel says their relationship was a casualty of their careers. “Nobody cheated on anybody,” he says firmly, as if to squelch rumours that the break-up was caused by a third party. Some tabloids have pointed to Geoff as the supposed third party, a rumor that both Geoff and Nikki have denied.

Gab admits that he still cares about Nikki, “more than any other girl [I've dated]”. He thinks Nikki was “the right girl at the wrong time”.

Fortunately, Gab is busy with both his career and his studies, so he has plenty to keep his mind off his broken heart. He is currently enrolled at De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde where he is pursuing a degree in Music Production. He could have gone to the University of the Philippines Conservatory of Music, but he chose the program at St. Benilde because its orientation was more toward pop.
