AT LEAST ONE fan favourite character is returning to Game of Thrones. Isaac Hempstead-Wright, whose Bran Stark sat last season out, confirmed that he would be returning to the hugely popular HBO series for season six. "I can't say a lot, but I am back this season, and it's going to get particularly interesting with Bran ... he has some interesting visions," the actor told the Irish Examiner.
Bran Stark, who is one of the youngest of the children of Ned (Sean Bean) and Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), has not been seen in the series since the end of season four. Most of the characters thought he was dead, although viewers knew that he was actually holed up away from the main action and is presumably developing his warging abilities (i.e. the power to enter the mind of an animal and control its actions).
Thrones creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have famously said they are going rogue and veering away from what author George R.R. Martin had written in his A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series that serves as the basis for the show. They also have said that they know how the show will end. "We know what the end is, and we're barrelling toward it," Benioff said. "So the idea that we're going to try and stretch it out by an extra couple years just because we're all having a good time doing it and people are making money off it just feels like it would be a betrayal." HBO declined to comment on the casting news. Hempstead-Wright, who was 12 when he was cast in the series, recently lent his voice to the animated film The Boxtrolls.
