Hala Kazim on changing lives through words

Hala Kazim, Emirati author, social influencer, entrepreneur and founder of positive transformation program 'Journey Through Change', recently launched Hala and Life, an Arabic self-help book which draws from her personal experiences and engages and inspires readers by encouraging them to share their life stories through substantial questions.
Hala's first book, Hala and Change, was published in early 2015. Hala told City Times what differentiates her second book from her first: "Hala and Life is based on my life experiences, while my first book included my biography, childhood and my inspiration to create the 'Journey Through Change' program and the stories and experiences of the participants."

What are your thoughts now that Hala and Life has been launched?
I feel a great sense of achievement and fulfillment for my next book, it truly is the next chapter in my life and something I am very proud of.

Tell us about 'Journey through Change' - the transformation program that you founded. Why did you feel the need to start such a program?
'Journey through Change' is something I felt I need to share and pass on to women, and based on my own experiences and my journey so that they may benefit from it. My main goal is to help women find the best version of themselves and help them reach their true potential.

In the modern world it is difficult to take time out for oneself and just introspect. Is this something you would recommend to your readers, to find the time from their daily routines to really get to know themselves? Would that help in transforming lives? Is there a particular incident that was a turning point in your own life, that inspired you?
Absolutely, I always advise people to find and take some time for themselves during their week, to take a break away from others to unwind with a walk or meditation. It really helps people clear their head and keeps them focused on their goals. It has been a great tool in my personal struggle with depression, and has been a turning point for me, which has allowed me to focus on helping others.

You were selected as an influential figure on social media by Google. How do you feel social media affects thoughts and opinions today and what are its pros and cons? Is there such a thing as responsible tweeting?
I think social media is a strong and influential platform, which can be used to empower and build up people, but can also be used to tear them down. I tend to use social media in a positive way, and the best thing about it is that it brings the whole world together. Any individual can participate and share their opinion and ideas, and the more we raise awareness on important social issues, the more people can learn and change. This is what I strive to do.
