— Modhesh — dropped in to wish them luck. The excited children, who were having a good time at the various rides, took time out to greet Modhesh on his arrival. The screaming kids, with parents and teachers in tow, rushed to shake hands with the all-endearing DSS mascot and to take pictures with him.

Modhesh, for whom children come first, obliged all the youngsters by mingling and posing with them. He also presented gift vouchers and goody bags as souvenirs of the memorable meeting. Children forgot all about their parents and teachers in Modhesh's company and were hovering around him. Umm Ali, mother of two of the kids there said, “My children are not keeping well but they still wanted to be here with Modhesh. So, in a way they convinced me to get them down to the party. By the way, they are big Modhesh fans as they often insist on wearing T-shirts of their favourite mascot irrespective of the DSS season. Modhesh is with them all the time,” she said adding, “We often used to go abroad during summer holidays but over the last two years we have changed our plans as there are so many things happening here during DSS that we don't want to miss out on.”

Sarah Khoury, mother of Ralph who just completed his first year at Montessori said, “Modhesh is indeed the star attraction of the event as Ralph wants to be with him all the time. The mascot is considered a perfect friend by the kids who never tire of talking about him and buying his merchandise available in whatever form. The party is a great event for the children to meet their icon in person,” she said.

Earlier in the morning, Modhesh also visited the Dubai Modern School where over 125 children from the KG section awaited his arrival. As soon as Modhesh arrived, the teachers found it difficult to control the crowds who broke all rules of discipline and headed straight to greet their loving mascot and refused to part ways with him until he presented them with gifts and invitations to his Fun City.

The welcome event was made colourful by the KG children's performances of song and dance and the awards ceremony honouring some of the mothers under the ‘My Mom is My Teacher’ programme organised by the school administration. As Modhesh left the venue, the children promised to catch up with him at his Fun City next month. The ten week DSS 2005 begins with the Flower Surprises on June 22 and continues with the Sweets Surprises, Arts Surprises, Colour Surprises, Ice Surprises, Adventure Surprises, Cartoon Surprises, Heritage Surprises, Knowledge Surprises and concludes with the Back-2-School Surprises on September 2.
