Mugdha Godse reveals she is no shrinking violet when it comes to publicity

Mugdha Godse who debuts with Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. People can’t stop raving about her fabulous bod and how spectacular she looks in the movie.

Guess it wasn’t difficult for you to fit the bill since you are portraying the character of a model in the film and you have a modeling background…

Being a model in real life and playing a model on screen is a completely different experience. The basic idea is the same, but on screen you have to act, emote, learn lines, and act out some characteristics which you don’t possess but you have to portray. It wasn’t difficult but it was different.

You were trained at Anupam Kher’s acting school. Is that something Madhur insisted on?

I enrolled in it for a ten-day training course. Yes, Madhur suggested that I do it, but I was also as keen. It helped me to understand the concept and get things right.

What’s Madhur like as a person…

He is very chilled out. His cinema depicts a lot of reality and seriousness. But he is not at all serious, he is very humourous. He keeps the atmosphere very light and healthy, which helps actors as well as others involved to perform very well.

How was it working with Priyanka?

She is a very down to earth person. I thought superstars are very edgy and have tantrums, but she is nothing like that. She is very friendly; we used to discuss just about everything. She also made it a point to call me for all her premiers, which I unfortunately couldn’t attend because I was travelling.

And Kangna?

Kangna is a very wonderful person at heart. She is very helpful and I got to learn a lot from both of them.

Recently Kangna was unhappy with the initial promos of the movie showcasing only Priyanka. Were you having such thoughts?

No, I wasn’t. I am a newcomer, so whatever extra coverage or footage I get I consider that as a bonus. And I think the part about Kangna getting upset is just a rumour. Because I think you always get what you deserve.

You have been part of the fashion industry for quite sometime, were there any incidents which have saddened you or left a mark on you?

I come from a completely different background; a middle class family. So it was a cultural shock for me. Attending parties, holding a wine glass and meeting people and greeting them were new to me. I learnt how to be myself and at times how to blow my own trumpet. At times you don’t get appreciated for your work, then blowing your trumpet comes in handy.

Many real life models have disagreed to the way Madhur has projected the fashion industry. They feel people would question their profession after watching the movie.

I think it depends from person to person. Everyone has a different way of perceiving things. I don’t feel anything derogatory has been projected or portrayed. Some would love the movie, some wouldn’t while others would relate to it.

Honestly, what is your opinion about the fashion industry?

On a personal note, I would say it is a ruthless industry. It is a competitive world. But then which industry is not competitive? The corporate world, the normal nine to five job, everywhere there is some level of competition. So, rather than giving up your morals, you should take a stand and be your own person. Like they say ‘Be a Roman in Rome’.
