Season 9 of the International Fashion Week Dubai (IFWD) brought in designers from across the world for a two-day event in the city last week. From haute couture to bridal wear and ready to wear, 25 designers from the city and across the world showcased their latest collections at the event held at Sofitel Dubai The Palm.
IFWD, organised by Opulence Events LLC and produced by Cheryle Dias, was inaugurated by Chief Guest Sheikh Obaid bin Suhail bin Batti Al Maktoum and attended by the city's fashion lovers, retailers, entrepreneurs and design students.
The Founder & Managing Director and Producer of the show, Cheryle Dias, commented that her aim was to promote and upgrade the fashion industry and to bring fashion, technology, and business together under one platform.
"I wanted to give an opportunity to innovative and talented emerging designers to start their career from our platform and at the same time to also acknowledge their work and encourage the best of talents by rewarding them."
"We have introduced Dubai as an international fashion hub in the international fashion calendar and since the conception of IFWD in May 2015 we have already brought designers from more than 70 countries to Dubai. We also help many of them to start their business in the UAE."
The event which kicked off with the collection by Mona Al Mansouri who showcased her couture and bridal collections, had designers from Taiwan, Philippines, Algeria, Belgium, Jordan, France and Palestine among others. It ended on a high note with a dazzling concept show by Cheryle Dias on the theme of summer spring 20/20.
IFWD is expected to travel to Milan and Paris as well as London and New York in the coming year.
