Dubai-based actor/producer Kamaal R. Khan discusses his latest venture
Is this your first movie?
No actually it’s my fifth movie.
Tell us something about your other movies.
My first movie was Sitam, in which I played a villain. Then we made three Bhojpuri movies.
These were made in India.
Yes of course.
What is your role in this movie?
I’m the hero; there are two heroines – Hrishitaa Bhatt and Gracy Singh. There are around fifteen villains – a lot of industry names like Shekhar Suman, Kader Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra, Mukesh Tiwari, Yashpal Sharma, Nirmal Pandey, Gulshan Grover etc.
That’s a lot of villains. So can you give us an idea of the storyline?
It’s an action movie based on the life of a guy who comes from the U.P. Bihar area to Mumbai.
Are you based in India or here?
Here in Dubai.
Is it harder to get roles since you are here and not in the Bollywood capital of Mumbai?
Not really since I’m not doing movies for other production houses; I’m doing my own movies.
I have produced the movies… I do them according to my convenience.
It’s a business which we started three years back. I’ve been in Dubai for the past 17 years. My production house is called OK International, which is based in Mumbai. In the near future we are going to produce at least two to three movies.
My film ‘Munna Pandey Berozgar’ was shot in London. Another big Bhojpuri hit movie was shot in Malaysia. But since we are based in Dubai we try our best to shoot here.
Dubai is changing at a very rapid pace – there are times when new roads and places are quite alien to me, it is easy to get lost!
John Abraham and from the older actors, Salman Khan.
