Earlier this year, the actress was reported to be in talks to play the British fashion icon in a biopic being made by Universal films. But now 33-year-old Kate is no longer attached to the film and producers are looking for another leading lady.
‘Kate’s people are saying she was never formally committed to the movie but there are whispers Dame Vivienne didn’t want Kate playing her,’ says a source. ‘In fact, Vivienne doesn’t seem keen on the film being made at all. Kate would have had to shadow Vivienne for weeks and that idea did not appeal.’
When I caught up with Dame Vivienne, 67, at Banqueting House in Whitehall, she seemed distinctly unimpressed with the project, declaring: ‘There is something going on with that whole thing. I’m not sure what’s happening but hopefully they will drop it’. But Universal insist the film will go ahead - with a different leading lady.
