mamashe’s never happy.” In real life, says Erich Gonzales, she and her mother have no such problems. Off-camera, Erich is very devoted to her family. She has only two siblings—an older brother and older sister—and she loves them both dearly. As for her mother, Erich says that the biggest mistake she (Erich) could ever make would be to give her mother reason to be unhappy.

“Ever since [I was a little girl], I’ve always been close to my mother,” says Erich, whose father left the family when Erich was only two years old. Growing up only with her mother, Erich and her mother became very close, and have remained so to this day.

Erich’s mother never remarried. Instead, she devoted her life to her children—and though she wouldn’t have minded it if her mother had remarried, Erich says that whatever she is now, she owes to her mother’s guidance. “She taught us how to be content with whatever we have,” says the Sana Maulit Muli star.

Did she ever try looking for her father? “We met once, through Tito Boy [Abunda] on the show Kontrobersyal,” says Erich. It was only a brief meeting, but long enough for Erich to feel that so-called stirring in her veins that told her this man was her father.

But that happiness proved to be short-lived. Erich and her father only met that one time. After that, he returned to the province—to Catanauan, Quezon where he has reportedly settled with a new family—and she never heard from him again.

Talking about her father brings tears to her eyes, but with the current career success she’s enjoying, Erich can’t remain sad for long. “This is my dream role,” she says. “It makes me really happy that people are supporting the show.”
