The fountain in the artificial lake that beautifies the Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City is getting dirty as the stagnant water is not being recycled after the water pump went faulty a few months ago. According to sources, the water pump was used to pump fresh water into the lake.
"We try and clean the lake everyday, but the accumulation of dirt simply doesn't stop," say the people in charge of the cleaning operations. "The lake starts stinking if it's not cleaned on a daily basis," they add.
According to the maintenance staff, the problem is a recent phenomenon and can be tackled only after the water is recycled. To add to the problems the three fountains that were set up to ensure that water does not remain stagnant have stopped working as well. "This might also lead to the destruction of marine life in the lake," the staff add.
The problem gets compounded after major entertainment events around the lake. "Visitors dump waste paper and plastic bags in the lake," say the cleaners. "We have reported the matter to the DMC maintenance department to no avail," say another source.
"Honestly, I don't have an idea about this matter as I've moved to the Knowledge Village. But I promise to investigate the matter and come back to you with a clarification," said Mohammed Abdelmonem, public relations officer, Dubai Media City after City Times approached him about the issue.
