Replying to whether this was a golden period for Malayalam cinema, he said: "It's a cycle. We have made some good films and achieved great success earlier too. But the new generation filmmakers, writers and actors are doing a very good job and it's exciting to watch their work."
Reinforcing the need for commercial success, the legendary actor said cinema is a business with lots of money being invested. "Commercial success is key for any industry to thrive. It makes more and more people to invest in the business of cinema. Critical acclaim can also come with successful films," he explained.
Referring to the recent show organised by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) in Abu Dhabi to raise money for flood relief in Kerala, Mohanlal said it elicited a very good response.
"AMMA did the show for free and we will be giving Rs50 million to the Chief Minister's flood relief fund," he informed us.
