The once-in-a-decade survey was due in 2021 but was delayed by the pandemic and technical and logistical hurdles
How did this tour come your way ?
It came as a huge surprise to me and my band members at Euphoria when the organisers of Pakistan Music Awards called us to perform at the Finale on June 14.
Though we were thrilled to the core, we had our own concerns about getting the visas. But to our amazement the organisers managed to get us the visa within 24 hours!
How do you feel about this performance considering that Indian musicians were not allowed to play there for a long period?
I feel very proud at this moment. It’s a big thing for us to cross borders like this to perfrom there and receive the love from Pakistani people.
This is also a historic moment since I believe an Indian band has never ever played in Pakistan so far. In fact if I am not mistaken Bryan Adams was the first foreigner to even perform in the country.
How do you feel the response is going to be ?
India has always welcomed Pakistani bands for years now but it was not the case vice versa. Music is a language of love which the new generation understands and is slowly making the older generation also understand.
There is nothing like enemity or whatever, it is just a handful of politicians who don’t let people meet. But it is changing and this tour is a big statement that winds of change have started to blow.
So will this strengthen the ongoing peace process?
The peace process actually started with our concerts in 2001-2002 when we played with Junoon. The new government has showed very positive signs and is serious about its relations with India. We will do our best and carry the message of love from here for the people of Pakistan. This tour will definitely help to bring people come close and hopefully peace will always prevail!
