Pinoy Big Brother back for season 2

ITS FIRST season was a runaway hit, prompting one award-giving body to dub it Phenomenal TV Programme of the Year. So it comes as no surprise that ABS-CBN, in cooperation with the Dutch production company Endemol, is bringing back Pinoy Big Brother....

whose second season officially unwrapped on February 25. There will, however, be a few changes when the new season of the hit reality TV show airs. For one thing, there will now be 14 instead of just 12 housemates. The show’s production staff, headed by returning director Laurenti Dyogi, conducted what Dyogi describes as “exhaustive auditions” that took them to the farthest corners of the Philippines, as well as abroad. Auditions for Pinoy Big Brother were held simultaneously with auditions for another ABS-CBN reality show, Pinoy Dream Academy.

“This was the most tedious casting process ever,” says Dyogi. Each potential candidate went through three separate interviews. Dyogi and his staff also made home visits “to see how they are in their natural environment. That’s why we feel like we know this batch of housemates really well.”

Dyogi says that in every country where Big Brother is aired, new changes are introduced every season. In the Philippine edition, aside from having 14 new housemates instead of just 12, the Big Brother house was renovated. Tasks will be more challenging, and house rules will be stricter. Secret missions will get even more difficult. “Every task of every day is a test of [the housemates’] endurance and strength of character,” says Dyogi.
