IT HAS BEEN a while since actor Jiiva has been in the movie spotlight; after the disappointing Yaan in 2014, he was happy doing cameos and often played himself. He is now making up for lost time with Pokkiri Raja, directed by Ramprakash Rayappa. The film is neither a re-telling of the eponymous 1982 Rajnikanth film nor of the Mammootty-Prithviraj starrer in Malayalam.
While much of the film is shrouded in mystery, all that the makers say is that it will be an all-out comedy with a surreal twist to the tale. Talks doing the rounds are that a special effects spectacle will be central to the film. Also starring Hansika Motwani and Sibiraj, the film has all the dimensions of a romantic triangle, with the blossoming love between the characters played by Jiiva and Hansika kicking up a storm.
Designed to entertain without any pretensions, Pokkiri Raja, playing in theatres now, could turn out to be an effortless watch this weekend.
