POPS FERNANDEZ reaffirms her stature as the Philippines' undisputed Concert Queen when she mounts her major concert dubbed 'Diva-licious!' on December 8 at the Araneta Coliseum (or The Big Dome) in Cubao, Quezon City.
"We will try to come up with another spectacular concert," she hints. "In the past, my audience are treated to a different Pops' version concert every time — fun, high-energy, visually-exciting, surprise guests, etc. This time we will give the audience exactly what they're expecting and even more surprises."
Indeed, touted as one of the music industry's biggest productions of the year, 'Diva-licious!' features the country's biggest concert livewires such as Gary Valenciano, Kuh Ledesma, Billy Crawford, Jay-R, and Sharon Cuneta.
Truly, the show — envisioned as a lavish concert spectacle with grand musical productions — gathers together some of Pops' close friends in the music biz and also highlights some of the most significant moments in her illustrious career. "First of all, this concert is meant to celebrate my 25th anniversary in showbiz," Pops explains. "Secondly, I can call it a grand birthday bash as well since December is my birthday month. Lastly, this is a long-overdue comeback in the concert scene after almost three years of not having a major concert here in Manila. I owe it all to my fans who have long been waiting and clamouring for this."
Judging from her looks, it hardly seems like two and a half decades have whizzed by. The trademark dimpled smile, the big round eyes, the full, luscious lips and the well-toned figure all betray her timeless beauty and elegance — not to mention her irrepressible wit and candour, which still make her one of the most bankable TV hosts this side of showbiz.
Though truly 'diva-licious' in every way, Pops coyly shrugs off the tag. "Apparently, it's one of the popular words in Hollywood these days," she muses. "What it means is, not only are you a diva but a hot diva!"
