THE MAKING AND eventual release of Vaalu, in fact, packs more suspense and drama than the reel adventure one sees in Tamil cinema. Directed by debutant Vijay Chander, the film made all the right noises when it was launched.
Here was Silambarasan alias Simbu taking on a project that was first set aside for actor Jai. Reports said he was impressed with the story and the whole industry clamoured for another super-hit, more so because Simbu was the flavour of the season with the superhit film Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya.
And then the hurdles came. The film's shoot was delayed after riots broke out in Hyderabad where the unit was camped, and after the wrap-up, more delays streamed in - from financial to distributor woes and even litigation centred on the title. To make things worse, tired of what seemed a perennial wait for the film's release, one of Simbu's fans reportedly attempted suicide.
In a surprise move, actor Vijay stepped in to offer support and now with Vaalu finally realeasing, both Simbu and his father, yesteryear one-man-filmmaking-army T Rajender, cannot thank Vijay enough.
As for the director, he is all praise for Simbu for his 'unwavering commitment' to the film.
Also starring Santhanam and Hansika Motwani, Vaalu doesn't look set to push any boundaries. It is touted and promoted as an unabashed action-comedy, and with Simbu around, you can also expect some well-choreographed songs. If some mindless entertainment is what you seek this weekend, check out Vaalu which is now playing in UAE theatres.
