THE DUBAI IRISH Society will host The Rose of Tralee Ball this Friday (May 21), hosted by operatic trio The Celtic Tenors.

The black-tie ball, which will be held in the Joharah Ballroom of the Madinat Jumeirah from 7pm till late, will celebrate a festival which had its 50th anniversary in 2009.

The Rose of Tralee competition aims to find a “lovely and fair” young lady of Irish descent whose personality, ambition and intellect make her an ideal ambassador for Ireland.

Each year, more than 30 ‘Roses’ from around the globe are selected. The regional winners then head to the town of Tralee in the Republic of Ireland to compete for the ultimate title, taken from the song of the same name.

The Celtic Tenors return to Dubai after a successful charity concert at the Westin Hotel in February, and will be putting the Roses through their paces on stage.

The classical crossover group are known for their expressive performing style, and their repertoire also encompasses everything from traditional folk to pop music.

A drinks reception will kick off the evening, followed by a three-course gourmet meal. Once the Dubai Rose has been chosen by a judging panel, the DJ will keep guests dancing till the wee hours.

Tickets cost Dhs375 per person. For more information visit www.irishsocietydubai.com
