Sonu Sood ditches Simmba for Dubai Women's Run

Fitness advocate and activist Sonu Sood may have added a touch of Bollywood glamour to the Dubai Women's Run 2018 press conference held at Swissotel Al Ghurair Deira on Wednesday, November 14, but that didn't take anything away from the event's more serious theme of women empowerment. Sood was part of an inspiring panel that included Race Chairman & DWR Founder Harmeek Singh, Ghaya Al Habtoor from the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, Ghazi Al Madani, Acting Director of the Sports Events Department at Dubai Sports Council, and Saleh Mohamed Hassan of the UAE Athletics Federation.
"I'd like only guys here to clap for the ladies, because it's the Dubai Women's Run," said Ghazi Al Madani, eliciting a big round of applause.
The run is supported by the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, the first licensed non-profit shelter in the UAE for women and children victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and human trafficking. Ghaya Al Habtoor of DFWAC said, "Our Foundation is providing an outreach programme/community awareness programme and taking part for the second time in this run is a great platform to reach women in need, empowering and supporting women is our most important objective. Let us all run for her."
The ever-exuberant Sonu Sood is backing the run for the second year. "When you talk about Dubai Women's Run, I feel every husband and father sitting at home would proudly say 'my wife is going to run' or 'my daughter's going to run'. I was shooting Simmba with Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar and the dates were clashing with the Dubai Women's Run but when I shared last year's video with them and told them I have to come for this event, they said 'we'll shoot it (the film) later'. I promise you I'll be here every year getting inspired and trying to share my experiences."
Run for women!
The Dubai Women's Run, part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge calendar, is being held on Friday, November 16, at Festival Bay, Dubai Festival City Mall. The event will host a 10k and a 5k race and is open to women and girls from age 14 years. Be there at 6am on the day of the race to register, the fee is Dhs150.
