The comedy about two unheroic New York cops faced with the case of their lives took just 900,000 pounds but it was enough to hold off “The Town”, with Ben Affleck as a Boston criminal with a romantic dilemma, which climbed one spot to second.

“Buried” came in at three with Ryan Reynolds as a truck driver waking up six feet underground with no idea who put him there.

“Eat Pray Love”, Julia Roberts’ journey of discovery, slipped two places to four, while psychological thriller “The Hole” was one down at five.

Sally Hawkins and Bob Hoskins came in at six with the story of women in a 1960s car plant fighting for equal wages, “Made in Dagenham”. The 25th anniversary re-release of perennial favourite “Back to the Future” made its debut in seventh place, just above Disney’s “Toy Story 3” which was down two at eight.

In ninth place was elevator horror movie “Devil”, down four places, while Adam Sandler comedy “Grown Ups” slipped three slots to tenth.
