We've got some bonus time off this weekend, which makes exploring that little bit easier. Whether it's having a deserved lie-in on Thursday and still enjoying a full weekend somewhere fun, or squeezing every last second out of the 72 hours of free time to see even more of your destination, you've earned this break so get out there and use it with these ideas.
Meet super heroes at Yas Island

The newly-opened Warner Bros. World on Yas Island is a one-stop-shop for rides and diving into your favourite cartoons and superhero films. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are on hand to welcome you to this grand theme park every day. The best part about a trip to Yas is the hotels on offer. There are loads. We like the Radisson Blu, which starts from Dhs350 on Friday night.
Traditional shopping in Sharjah
We love living in the UAE, but where's all the hustle and bustle that movies and TV told us shopping in Arabia entails? Well, you can find a taster at the Souk al-Markazi, popularly named the Blue Souk, in Sharjah. Antiques, carpets, lamps, they're all there waiting to be haggled over. A deluxe sea view room at the Coral Beach Resort will set you back Dhs399 per night if you fancy staying over.
See to believe in Dubai's new district
The Museum of Illusions has just this second officially opened its doors at the Al Seef by Meraas development near Dubai Creek. Boasting the largest collection of optical illusions in the Museum of Illusions' worldwide portfolio, Museum of Illusions Dubai could be the one for you this weekend. And if you fancy staying in the lap of luxury that end of town, the Palazzo Versace is the place to be. Okay, it may be a bit pricier than other choices, but for one night, why not treat yourself? Plus, if you're a UAE resident, a special deal means you can stay from Dhs793 per night.
Learn to surf under the Al Ain sun

It may be situated in the middle of the desert, but Wadi Adventure could be the best place in the world to learn to surf. Seriously. A giant manmade pool means waves are staggered at regular intervals and heights meaning beginners can bank on the surf's frequency and strength - impossible in nature. Seasoned pros can go in deeper and enjoy hanging ten. For a superbly comfortable and reasonable stay, the Aloft Al Ain has rates from Dhs205 per night this weekend and is very close to the water park.
We love Fujairah beachcombing

Well, Al Aqah actually. That's where you'll find the best beach in this emirate and one of the best hotels perched right alongside is Le Meridien Al Aqah. You're not going to be able to resist the white sandy shoreline and food on offer at the property. It's very busy this weekend, but there are still rooms up for grabs from Dhs1238.
Two abroad from Tajawal
The food in Beirut
Just under a four-hour flight away, experience the 'Paris of the Middle East' with a trip to Beirut. With its diverse culture and attractions, not forgetting delicious Lebanese cuisine, it is the perfect destination for a long weekend adventure. Packages start from Dhs2,153 per person which includes two nights in Beirut, return flights, a half-day private tour in the city, daily breakfast and airport transfers.
Explore the Silk Road
Travellers looking for an authentic cultural experience should head to the vibrant city of Yerevan in Armenia. Discover the world's best-preserved Silk Road caravanserais, centuries old top monasteries and exceptional local cuisine. Packages start from Dhs1,678 and include a three-night stay, return flights and daily breakfast. Visit www.tajawal.ae
