MAROON 5 WON plaudits with the hybrid rock/R&B sound they introduced on their debut album ‘Songs about Jane’, which yielded four chart topping singles. Their second album ‘It Won’t be Soon Before Long’ is ‘sexier’, ‘stronger’ and ‘lyrically darker’ than the first, according to vocalist/guitarist Adam Levine.
Maroon 5 are vocalist guitarist Adam Levine, drummer Matt Flynn, guitarist James Valentine, bassist Mickey Madden and keyboardist Jesse Carmichael. City Times got up and close with the band just before the big night.
Your first impressions of the city are….
The weather is just like LA; we have been snow boarding indoors and are hoping to go for the desert safari that comes with dinner and dancing. It’s pretty extraordinary.
Your thoughts on your new album…
Don’t know how to describe it but we enjoyed the music and everything that went into the making of it. And it will make it on the top 5!

The band has been on a whirlwind tour; how do you manage to stay fit and keep the bulges at bay?
We just don’t eat.
Christmas is just round the corner, what is in store for the celebrations?
We are all actually branching out and plan to stay far away from each other for Christmas but a lot closer to our families. We’ve been touring so long; it would be a welcome change to be home with the family.
Maroon 5 has a huge following and girls are crazy about you guys. How do you manage your girlfriends?
We don’t! There are break ups and we get dumped all the time. It is difficult maintaining relationships but we love the female attention.
Your music has also been a success because of the lyrics; is there a writing process that you follow?
It’s a blend of jamming sessions or works that we have written individually; we are not too formulated about the writing and that’s what keeps it fresh.
