zayedThe latest to bring home laurels is Dubai's Zayed University.

It's web site won a bronze award at the finals of Pan Arab Web Awards 2006 competition held in Amman, Jordan last month.

Zayed University 's website, www.zu.ac.ae, a co-production of the University's IT and Publications departments, bagged the third place in the Culture and Education category from among 10 finalists. Earlier, the ZU web site came first in the same category of the recent UAE Web Awards.

'We knew we had a good web site, and we were confident we would fare well,' said Brian O'Flynn, ZU web strategist who, together with web designer Imran Qureshi, designed the web site. Both accepted the bronze prize for ZU at the awards ceremony in Amman.

Pan Arab Web Awards competition was created to recognise excellence in web design and development skills. The event aims at bringing together web design companies, freelancers and web owners in a competition for the best web site in each of the designated 22 categories. This was the first time ZU entered the competition.

The ZU web site, in its new format, has over 2,000 pages of information which are gleaned by diverse audiences like students, their families, current and prospective employees, the wider UAE community and academics around the world.

'We update the content daily,' said O'Flynn. Since the relaunch, he said, their web site has attracted over 850,000 visitors, with 22,000 page views every day.
