Abu Dhabi - 'A distance of at least 1.5 metres kept between shoppers in queue'

Supermarkets have been asked to ensure a distance of 1.5 metres between customers at billing counters and in queues.

Retail outlets across the UAE have installed placards and floor signs to educate customers on how to practise social distancing. There were stickers pasted on the floor to guide customers to maintain a 1.5-metre distance from one another.

The Abu Dhabi Government Media Office tweeted: "Crowding and queues for purchases are to be prevented, and a distance of at least 1.5 metres kept between shoppers in queues, indicated by signs on the ground."

Kamal Vachani, Group Director of Al Maya Supermarkets, said they have already started placing floor signs at their supermarkets. "Within two days, all our 50 supermarkets across the UAE will have floor signs asking customers to maintain a safe distance.

"We are very particular when it comes to maintaining strict hygiene protocol. Trolleys are cleaned and sanitised every fifteen minutes to make it infection-free."
