UAE citizens, expats expressed their support for the medical community and heroes of the national sanitization programme by singing the UAE national anthem from their balconies Thursday night.
One such video of hundreds of residents singing the UAE national anthem is now going viral on social media.
Jaber Al Lamki, the executive director of media and strategic communications, National Media Council posted the video on his Twitter feed stating, "There are moments in life when you try to express your feelings of pride but you can't! This video does it nicely #Solidarity #Discipline and #Respect. Thank you to #MyUAE community for singing the national anthem with us to cheer up the heroes on the streets #StayHome." In an endeavor to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, the UAE government launched a nation-wide sanitization programme that kickstarted at 8pm on Thursday, March 26.
The on-going stay at home campaign leaves only supermarkets, grocery stores, banks, and pharmacies open. As people hunkered down, several videos of residents cheering from their balconies across the UAE shows that the country's spirits are still strong.
Similar cheering events took place in several residential neighborhoods in Dubai and Sharjah. At approximately 8.30 pm, the entire Al Nahda and Al Khan residential areas erupted in loud cheers with several people playing live music from their balconies.
