Dubai - The country has conducted more than 21 million tests so far.
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Saturday reported 1,963 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,081 recoveries and 3 deaths.
As many as 152,588 new Covid-19 tests were carried out, taking the total number of tests carried out in the country to more than 21 million so far.
The total number of cases in UAE as on January 2, 2021, stand at 211,641 while total recoveries are 188,100. Death toll rises to 674.
Number of active cases in the country stand at 22,867.
MoHAP recently announced that the Chinese Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine was now available at all medical centres in the UAE.
Those aged 18 years and older can take the jab. The vaccine is especially important for the elderly and those with chronic diseases, the Ministry of Health and Prevention said.
The jab is offered in two doses: The first is given after some medical tests and assessments; and the second is given 21 to 28 days later.
The UAE's National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) had reported that the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine shows 100 per cent protection against moderate and severe Covid-19 infections.
Earlier on Thursday, the UAE welcomed 2021 with 33 fireworks across the country, where revellers followed strict Covid-19 safety precautions, including wearing masks and following social distance norms.
The World Health Organisation on Thursday granted emergency validation to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, paving the way for countries worldwide to quickly approve its import and distribution.
The WHO said its emergency use listing opens the way for regulators in different countries to approve the import and distribution of the vaccine.
