Breastfeeding mums who tested positive for Covid-19 will still be able to provide milk for their babies, thanks to an initiative launched by an association in Sharjah.
The Friends of Breastfeeding Association of the Health Promotion Department at Sharjah's Supreme Council for Family Affairs will provide these mothers with breast pumps and other accessories to help them maintain their milk supply.
The project, called 'Your Support, Our Priority', will be implemented in cooperation with the breastfeeding clinic at the Family Health Promotion Centre in Sharjah.
Breast milk protects babies from contagious diseases and boosts their immunity. It also strengthens the bond between mothers and infants, especially if there's a need to isolate them from each other.
Khawla Al Noman, head of Breastfeeding Friends Association, said the initiative is part of efforts to help those infected with Covid-19 overcome the disease and support them as they recover and get back to their normal life.
"The association - in accordance with the directives from Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs - also seeks to promote the physical and mental health of children and mothers, in partnership with various public and private agencies," she added.
