His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to the global fight against the novel coronavirus in a call with the head of the Catholic Church.

In a post on Twitter, he said, "During a phone call with Pope Francis, I reiterated our shared vision inspired by The Document on Human Fraternity.

"His call for global cooperation in tackling Covid-19 is crucial, and together we are committed to building an alliance for the prosperity of humankind."

Earlier this week, the UAE, in collaboration with the Vatican Department of Education, dispatched a plane containing 15 tonnes of medical and food aid to the Peruvian Amazon river area.

The gesture was the result of the 'Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together' signed in Abu Dhabi by the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, His Eminence Dr Ahmed El Tayeb and His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church.

To date, the UAE has sent more than 995 tonnes of aid to more than 69 countries.
