100 days of Covid-19: When UAE reported its first case

As cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus spiked around the world, the UAE did its best to ward off the outbreak. Being a global hub of humanity, however, the pandemic managed to find its way to the country's shores.
On January 29, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) confirmed the UAE's first cases of Covid-19.

A Chinese family of four, arriving from the city of Wuhan on January 16, were diagnosed with the deadly virus that has, to date, affected nearly 1.5 million people and claimed over 82,000 lives.

The UAE moved quickly and set in place stringent measures to curb its spread.

In coordination with all the concerned authorities in the country, MoHAP confirmed that it had taken "all the necessary precautions in accordance with the scientific recommendations, conditions and standards approved by the World Health Organisation".

These steps eventually included the suspension of flights in and out of the country, santisation drives, and public health awareness campaigns, among others.

The UAE has reported 2,359 cases so far, a relatively smaller number as compared to other international cities.
